Bhartiya promotes new leather park

New Delhi-based leather garment manufacturer Bhartiya International Limited held a reception at the recent India International Leather Fair (IILF 2007) to promote the new leather park that is to be established in the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) at Andhra Pradesh in the Nellore district, 70 km away from the port of Chennai
.

The company, which signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the state government in January, plans to develop 300 acres of land for the new facility.
Approximately ten leather manufacturing companies, including Liberty Shoes, US-based Irving Leather Company and several Chinese companies have already expressed an interest in setting up units at the site, which hopes to generate employment for approximately 10,000 people in the next five years.

At the reception, managing director of Bhartiya, Snehdeep Aggarwal, advisor to the Andhra Pradesh government, D Somayajulu, and advisor, EU-India Trade and Investment Development Programme (TIDP), A Sahasranaman, highlighted the importance of the leather park and outlined the government incentives that are being offered to attract investment.

Talking to www.leatherbiz.com, Mr Snehdeep said that international companies from
Taiwan, Korea and Italy have also been invited to establish leathergoods production factories at the SEZ, where electricity will be provided at a subsidised rate, with duty-free machinery and raw material imports. 50% of production can be sold to the growing domestic market and there will be a 100% Foreign Direct Investment and tax breaks for ten years. Free repatriation of profits will also be permitted.

Irving Tanning Company and Bhartiya have formed a strategic partnership to
design and build a bovine tannery in
India
. The two companies will develop various leathers for the global footwear and accessories market, while working to identify new markets and customers for the leathers.

Bhartiya has offices in
China, Hong Kong, Italy, Switzerland, and the USA as well as factories in Bangalore
and Chennai.
