The Higher Education Commission (HEC) and the Pakistan Institute of Development Economics (PIDE) have urged Pakistan’s government to provide new incentives to the country’s leather industry and to adopt quality standards and international certification standards including ISO-14000, ISO 9000, ISO-17025, and SA-8000 in order to boost the country’s exports of leather goods and footwear to the lucrative European and American markets.

The joint proposal also called for the modernisation of livestock farming based on the application of scientific methods.
