SATRA to hold restricted substances seminars in China

09/02/2007

UK-based technology centre SATRA will hold a series of seminars in China in April to explain how to manage the issues of restricted substances in footwear and other consumer products.

John Hubbard, from SATRA’s chemical and analytical technologies group, will cover the implications of the ever-increasing legislation regarding these substances and how this has a significant impact on the materials used in the manufacture of a wide range of consumer products.

He will also highlight the dangers of these substances which can be found in materials such as textiles, leather, plastics and rubber and explain how they can cause harm when ingested or inhaled, as well as having a negative impact on the environment.

Substances which are currently restricted—such as chrome VI, pentachlorophenol (PCP), azo dyestuffs, formaldehyde, organotins and transition metals such as lead and cadmium—and those that could potentially be restricted in the future, will be reviewed as well as appropriate tests and analysis techniques.

The seminars will run at various venues during the week beginning April 23.
