62 Indian leather companies receive awards

Some 62 Indian leather companies were presented with export awards and certificates of merit at the India International Leather Fair (IILF), held in Chennai from January 31 to February 3.

Kanpur-based Superhouse Leathers Ltd. was awarded a gold trophy for exports totalling $40.27 million in 2005-06, while Chennai-based Farida
Shoes received a silver trophy for achieving exports of $34.84 million in the same period.

Six companies from the finished leather segment received awards: Allah Dad Tannery, (Kanpur), Tata International Ltd. (Dewas), Shafeeq Shameel & Co (Chennai), Pacific
Leather (Kanpur), Dhevi Supper Leathers (Chennai) and Deviram Apparels (Chennai), all of which posted export revenues ranging from $1 million to over $15 million in 2005-06.
Awards were also presented to companies from the footwear, leathergoods, industrial leather, fashion/sports, gloves, and saddlery and harness fields.

In the Design Award category, The Florence Shoe Company was awarded first prize whilst Forward Leather Company was the runner up.
