Brazilian leather sales to Arab countries increase 78%

24/01/2007

According to data released by the Association of Tanning Industries of Rio Grande do Sul (AICSul), Brazil earned $1.79 million from leather exports to the League of Arab States in 2006—78% higher than the $1 million earned in 2005. Although AICSul president, Cezar Muller, admitted that the export revenue earned in the Arab region was still relatively small compared with total leather exports, he emphasised that further sales growth is expected in 2007 as Brazil continues to focus on new and alternative markets.

He added that whilst export revenues in traditional markets remain quite high, further growth is hampered due to the fierce competition that exists and that Brazil is now boosting sales through establishing links within emerging markets.
