Vietnam leather exports withstand EU duties

According to figures released by the General Statistics Office of Vietnam the country exported handbags, wallets, suitcases and umbrellas worth $490 million in 2006, a 5.37% increase compared with the $465 million reported in 2005.

Despite EU restrictions on Vietnamese products footwear,the country still exported footwear worth $3.55 billion in 2006 compared with $3 billion in 2005—an increase of 18.3%.

Total Vietnamese exports totalled $39.605 billion versus $32.233 billion in 2005, with leather sector exports reaching $4.045 billion in 2006.
