One of America’s oldest luggage and leathergoods manufacturers, Tennessee-based Hartmann, Inc., currently celebrating its 130th anniversary, has announced that Albert Tillman, a Hurricane Katrina survivor, as the winner of its ‘Me & My Hartmann’ contest. The aim of the contest, launched in September, was to find the most interesting and compelling stories relating to the company’s products and consumers.

The contest was conceived as the result of a letter Hartmann received from Mr Tillman, whose important documents were kept safe through the hurricane after being stowed in his Hartmann hard-sided attaché, despite his home being destroyed. He subsequently wrote to the company and his letter prompted the launch of the contest.

Mr Tillman had owned his original case for approximately 20 years and has now been given a new Belting Leather Attaché as a replacement. His original case, nick-named the 'survivor' is being kept at the company’s Corporate Headquarters archives beside a trunk used by actor Jimmy Stewart and a large suitcase once owned by baseball legend Joe DiMaggio.
