Further sales decline at Wilsons

leather outerwear, accessories and apparel retailer Wilsons The Leather Experts Inc. has reported sales of $75.7 million for the five weeks ended December 30, compared with $110.2 million for the five weeks, ended December 31, 2005. Year-to-date sales decreased by 20.3% to $295.5 million compared with $370.6 million for the same period last year.

Comparable store sales decreased 23.1% for the five-week period compared with a 7.7% decrease for the prior year period. Year-to-date comparable store sales decreased by 17% compared with a decrease of 2.2% for the same period last year.

According to chairman and chief executive officer Michael Searles, accessories continue to outperform outerwear as sales continue to be negatively impacted by warmer weather.
