Brazilian leather exports increase 33%

According to the Centre for the Brazilian Tanning Industry (CICB), Brazilian leather exports grew 33% in terms of value to reach $1.9 billion in the period January to November 2006, compared with $1.26 billion for the same period in 2005. Exports rose 25% in terms of volume. 

During the 11-month period, exports of finished leather increased 34% in terms of volume and 40% in terms of revenue. 

The main import market for Brazilian leather was Italy which accounted for 26.43% of total exportsan increase of 51% compared with 2005. China was the second largest export market (with a share of 20.11%—a 48% increase) and Hong Kong was the third largest importer, with a 15.39% sharean increase of 23% over the prior year period. Other significant export markets included the USA, South Korea, Indonesia, the Netherlands, Portugal, Taiwan and Vietnam.
