IULTCS to present first merit award for excellence

14/12/2006

The International Union of Leather Technologists and Chemists’ (IULTCS) will present a merit award for excellence in the leather industry at the IULTCS Congress to be held in the USA in June next year.

The biennial award, which was first established at the March 2005 Congress in Florence, Italy, will recognise an individual whose past or current achievements have had an extraordinary impact on the industry and have provided an example for others to follow. The recipient is selected by the IULTCS executive committee, based on nominations submitted by regional representatives.

Examples of efforts that are worthy of recognition include published research resulting in significant new technologies; publications that notably contribute towards the understanding of leather and its by-products; a significant contribution towards the development, writing and organisation of industry test methods or specifications; and practical achievements that lead to successful developments in leather processing technology.

It is expected that the recipient will be an active or recently retired member of a leather technical association that is a paid-up member of the IULTCS.
