OFBF re-elects president

Bob Peterson has been re-elected president of the Ohio Farm Bureau Federation (OFBF)the state’s largest general farm organisation, which is engaged in advocacy for Ohio farmers, primarily in the public policy and public relations arenas.

Mr Peterson will serve his third full one-year term; he first became president in a special election in March, 2004. Prior to becoming president, he was OFBF’s first vice president and previously its treasurer. He was originally elected to the state board of trustees in 1995. He is also a member of the board of directors of the American Farm Bureau Federation (AFBF) and has been a member of the Fayette County Farm Bureau for 22 years, where he was county president and held various other leadership positions.

In a speech to Farm Bureau delegates, he listed the writing of the new farm bill, immigration reform and energy issues as three challenges the organisation will be involved with at national level during the coming year. He added that the OFBF’s priorities will also include promoting and defending the state’s livestock industry.

Meanwhile, Brent Porteus has been re-elected treasurer of the OFBF and as trustee representing members from Coshocton, Holmes, Knox and Licking counties.
