Ambitious export target set by Pakistan

An ambitious export target has been set by the Pakistan government of , which hopes to increase exports to $43.3 billion by 2013
from the current level of $16.5 billion. Efforts will be concentrated on increasing exports within key industries such as leather and leather products, meat and furniture.

The export target for leather and leather products alone is $2.26 billion, an 11% increase compared with the current total of $1.09 billion.

The seven-year plan has been devised by the country’s Planning Commission, which anticipates that Gross Domestic Product (GDP) will grow by 15% during the period.
