Sri Lankan leather exports fall

According to its Customs department,
Sri Lanka’s exports of leather and leather products between January and August totalled $14.32 million compared with $18.64 million in the same period in 2005, a decline of 23.18%.

Despite this, the country exported footwear worth $11.02 million during the same period, compared with $8.49 million in the prior year period, an increase of 29.78%.

Total exports including leather stood at $4.411 billion compared with $4.05 billion in the January to August 2005 period.
