Zvonimir Markovich retires from Jos. H. Lowenstein & Sons

Markovich, head of the Leather Division at Jos. H. Lowenstein & Sons, Inc., has retired at the age of 61.

After graduating in Organic Chemistry in Zagreb, Croatia, Mr Markovich’s work experience started at the Textile Mill in Basel, Switzerland, where he worked for five years as a chemist in the company’s R&D and Quality Control laboratories. In March 1975, he joined Ciba Geigy in Australia, starting as lab chemist in the Leather Division and shortly afterwards was promoted to managing the company’s leather and fur business.

In 1988, Mr Markovich moved to Ciba Geigy headquarters in Basel, Switzerland, to gain more international experience. He travelled on technical assignments for the company to countries such as Iceland, Mongolia, Bulgaria and Russia. In 1990, he became technical manager of the Leather/Fur department of Ciba Geigy Corporation in Greensboro, North Carolina. He remained in this role until the creation of TFL.

He later joined Jos. H. Lowenstein & Sons, Inc. in Brooklyn, New York, to head the company’s Leather Division, where he stayed until his retirement.

Mr Markovich joined ALCA in 1991 as a full-time member, continuing his active duty until the end of 2006, and presented a technical paper at the ALCA symposium in 1993.

He will retire to his home in North Carolina and intends to spend six months of the year there, enjoying his hobbies and travelling, and the other six months in his native Croatia.
