After a sustained period of continuous growth, it seems that problems caused by the overvalued Real has finally hit Brazilian leather exports. The Foreign Trade Department has reported that in September the volume of exported leather fell 11% and revenue dropped 9% compared with August figures. In August, the revenue from leather
exports was $173 million but this fell to $158 million in September. The reduction has affected leather in all the processing stages including a 12% drop in exports of wet blue hides and a 9% decline in finished leather exports.
