Chairman Ahmed Zulfiqar Hayat has been unanimously re-elected as central chairman of the Pakistan Leather Garments Manufacturers & Exporters Association (PLGMEA) for 2006-07. Sohail Khawar Mir and Rizwan Rashid have been elected vice chairmen of PLGMEA for the northern and southern zones respectively.

Mr Ahmed has been involved in policy-making with various government agencies and has been able to streamline several legalities pertaining to exports. He has been actively promoting the interest of leather garments exporters which has helped the leather garments industry to turn around the drastic reduction in exports. The industry is now showing signs of recovery and growth. His mission is that the leather garment industry achieves exports of $1 billion annually. Total leather garment exports during the last fiscal year were $490 million.
