US-based designer and manufacturer of high-end office furniture, Herman Miller, Inc.’s West Michigan manufacturing sites are now all considered Clean Corporate Citizens by the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ).

The company has a total of six manufacturing facilities in the West Michigan area—five of which received the Clean Corporate Citizen (C3) Award this year. Herman Miller’s GreenHouse facility, located in Holland, Michigan, received the award in 2005.

The C3 program rewards Michigan firms that consistently demonstrate environmental stewardship and pollution prevention. Companies that qualify as a C3 must have a strong and effective environmental management system in place, including a clear statement of the establishment’s commitment to environmental excellence and continual improvement.

Herman Miller is also to be given the WasteWise Award by the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) at the 2006 WasteWise Conference in
Arlington, Virginia, October 19. The company earned recognition from the EPA for its commitment to build or renovate its facilities to meet at least a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Silver certification. The company currently has a total of nine LEED-certified buildings.
