Increased Q2 and first half revenues at Samsonite

Luggage, casual bags, business cases and leathergoods company Samsonite Corporation has reported increased revenues of $498.5 million for the six-month period ended July 31 compared with revenues of $468.9 million during the same in the prior year. Net loss for the first six months of the year was $6.4 million compared with net income of $2.6 million during the prior year period.

For the second quarter of fiscal year 2007, revenues were $257.5 million and net loss was $6 million compared with $236.5 million, $18 million and $1.3 million, respectively, for the second quarter of the prior year.

Chief executive officer Marcello Bottoli, stated: "Sales growth during the quarter was a robust 8.5% on a constant currency basis with solid progress in each major region.”

During the second quarter, the company acquired controlling interests in three companies: a majority-owned joint venture with its Thailand distributor; a majority interest in the operations of its Australian distributor; and a majority interest in premier luxury handbag and shoe designer label Lambertson Truex. Lambertson Truex is known for its high end bags and shoes made from rich leather and exotic skins such as alligator and karung.
