Tony Cox passes away

04/07/2006
Anthony (Tony) Cox, MBE, died July 3, in Perth, Scotland, aged 68. With a long career in the leather industry, he had been Director General of ICHSLTA, the international council of hides, skins, and leather traders' associations, and Secretary General of the British trade association, SHALTA. In 1998 he was honoured by the British government with an MBE for his services to the UK leather industry, especially in the aftermath of the BSE crisis. He was also a recipient of ICHSLTA's Frank Johnston Award for services to the industry, presented to him in 2001.

At the age of 14, he was a British schoolboy soccer international but followed a career in the hide and skin trade instead. He did, however, retain an interest in the sport and was a FIFA qualified referee.
