Karachi effluent treatment plan delayed

28/06/2006

Local media reports indicate that the inauguration of the combined effluent treatment plant (CETP) for Korangi Tanneries in Karachi, Pakistan, where more than two hundred tanneries are housed, has been further delayed until August. This is said to be because two important components of the project, the conveyance system and the dilution lines, are still to be completed.

Project manager Ejaz Ahsan stated that the two components should be completed by the end of July while the plant itself is already complete. The Pakistan Tanners Association (PTA) had earlier anticipated its completion by May. The PTA has requested that the Ministry of Commerce arrange its inauguration ceremony, led by Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf at the beginning of August.
