According to statistics released by the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, during the period January to March 2006, Sri Lanka exported leather and leather goods worth $5.02 million compared with $6.71 million in the comparable period a year earlier. This equates to a decline of 25.17% year-on-year.
Sri Lanka exported footwear worth $3.15 million during the same period in 2006 compared with $4.18 million in the three-month period in 2005—a decrease of 24.74%.
Total exports from Sri Lanka (all sectors) stood at $1.518 billion compared with $1.532 billion in January to March 2005.
