UNIC General Meeting to be held

The General Meeting of the Italian National Union for the Tanning Industry (UNIC) will be held on June 16 at the Hotel Palace in ViareggioTuscany, Italy. Major Italian and European representatives from the tanning sector will attend as well as a large number of leather manufacturers and political figures.

The Italian leather sector comprises 62% of EU turnover and 20% of world-wide exports. Almost two thirds of production is exported to 133 countries, while 92% of the primary material requirements come from abroad.

The leather commodity industry (undressed and tanned) is the most significant, valued at $20 billion. Luxury goods have become increasingly important, totalling 18% of production (24% in terms of value), in the following order: leather goods, clothing, footwear, furnishings and car upholstery.
