Rabies outbreak in Limpopo

06/06/2006

There has been a major outbreak of rabies in Limpopo, South Africa. In the past five months, 21 people are said to have died after being bitten by infected animals and 48 animals were confirmed to have the disease.

Dr Lucas Mampane, provincial head of veterinary services has blamed the surge in cases on the drought last year when wild animals were forced to look for food and water closer to villages.
