South Africa and Tunisia establish joint council

South Africa and Tunisia have established a joint business council as a way of strengthening bilateral economic relations between the two countries. The council will provide a regular forum for discussions and promotion of economic activities between enterprises in the two countries.

A memorandum of understanding to this effect has been signed by the Chambers of Commerce and Industry South Africa (CHAMSA) and Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Handcrafts of Tunisia (UTICA).

South Africa's exports to Tunisia
are said to have grown rapidly from around R27 million ($4.02 million) in 2000 to over R40 million in 2005.

South Africa's major exports to Tunisia
include chemicals and tanning products.
