Tunisian industrial production rises but leather exports fall

According to statistics released by the Central Bank of Tunisia, the country’s
industrial production index rose by 2.3% in the first quarter of the year compared with a 1.6% decrease during the same period in 2005. The highest growth was recorded in manufacturing industries notably agro-food industries and mechanical and electrical industries.

Exports rose 10.4% whilst imports increased 12.2%. However textile, clothing, leather and footwear registered a 4.2% decrease in exports.
