The government in Pakistan has approved the sum of Rs1 billion ($16.6 million) to be used to improve of water and sewerage as well as for the industrial waste and sewerage disposal system in Korangi Industrial Area (KIA), where approximately 200 tanneries are located.

The water and sewerage system in the KIA was badly affected by a flash flood 30 years ago and no restoration work has been done since.
