The Central Statistics Organisation of the Indian government has released its Quick Estimates of Index for Industrial Production (IIP) in March.

The General Index stands at 249.2, 7.7% higher than the level in March 2005.

Ten of the 17 industry groups showed positive growth during March 2006 compared with the corresponding month of the previous year. The industry group 'Other Manufacturing Industries’ showed the highest growth of 34.7%, while a 9.9% increase was seen in the group for ‘Leather and Leather & Fur Products’.
