Pakistan’s leather exports fall

A breakdown of the figures showed that the country exported finished leather worth $19.799 million, leathergoods worth $52.526 million and footwear worth $8.092 million compared with $16.267 million, $56.031 million and $9.237 million respectively in the previous month. Finished leather exports increased by 21.71%, whilst leathergoods and footwear fell by 6.26% and 12.40% respectively.
For the period from July 2005 to March 2006, leather exports performed well, reaching $832.362 million compared with $683.490 million in the corresponding period last year—an increase of 21.78%. A breakdown showed that Pakistan exported 11,731,000 m2 of finished leather worth $196.750 million compared with 13,449,000 m2 with a value of $219.739 million in the period July 2004 to March 2005—a decline of 12.77% in terms of quantity and 10.46% in terms of value. The country exported leathergoods worth $540.548 million, (which includes leather garments worth $387.287 million, leather gloves worth $107.646 million and other leathergoods worth $45.615 million) compared with $375.271 million in the corresponding period last year—a rise of 44.04%. The country also exported 12,016,000 pairs of footwear worth $95.064 million (which includes leather footwear exports worth $81.833 million, canvas footwear at $2.777 million and other footwear at $10.454 million), a 7.44% increase compared with the 12,269,000 pairs worth $88.480 million exported in the same period a year ago.
