Leather and footwear sectors face largest job losses in Brazil

According to a report in AgĂȘncia Brasil, although general industrial employment in Brazil was stable in January 2006, the footwear and leather goods sector saw a large fall in the numbers of employees, down 23.4% compared with January 2005.

In geographic terms, Rio Grande do Sul, a well-known leather and footwear producing region, saw the greatest fall in employment, down 9.4% year-on-year.
