The Indian Supreme Court has ruled that the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is responsible for the spiralling cost of establishing a state-of-the-art abattoir in Ghazipur, East Delhi. The overall cost has risen from Rs65 crore ($14.55 million) to Rs185 crore ($41.4 million).

The court directed the MCD to finalise the bills of the contractor within two weeks and also directed the contractor to immediately begin the civil and electrical construction and effluent treatment plant for installation by June 30.
