Clayton to transfer production

24/03/2006

UK-based tanner and leather manufacturer Claytons Leather of Chesterfield has announced that due to rising overheads, fuel price increases and the cost of production at its Samuel Sharp (Curriers) Ltd site in Cosgrove, Milton Keynes, production at the facility will be transferred to the company’s main site in Chesterfield.

In a statement, chairman of the company, PL Watson, said, ”During the past several years it has become increasingly difficult to operate profitably from our site in Cosgrove, Milton Keynes. Samuel Sharp (Curriers) Ltd, our subsidiary company operating from this address has a history of serving the equestrian sector for more than 400 years. We remain totally committed to providing premium bridle and other leathers for existing and new customers.”

He added, Our acquisition of the contract finishing company SVR, back in January, is a strategic move to broaden capabilities within the group. This plant and business will, during the course of the year, also be re-located to Chesterfield and provide both finishing expertise and volume capabilities where previously the company had faced challenges in product consistency.”
