BMC abattoir in Botswana posts a profit

23/03/2006

According to the website of the Botswana government, despite the recent problems faced due to running under capacity, the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) has recorded a P15 million profit for the 2005 financial year.

However, despite the positive results, the company failed to meet the 18,916 ton European Union quota that had been set.

This was said to be due to factors including the high costs of complying with EU requirements, difficulty in obtaining permits from the veterinary and the police, and the high transportation costs.
