Atlântica Group acquires the Podboy Tannery

Japanese company, the Atlântica Group, which specialises in the production of automotive upholstery leather, has signed a purchase agreement to acquire the Podboy tannnery in Uberaba , Brazil , where it will set up an Atlântica Tannery. The company plans to invest R42 million ($20 million) to reactivate the tannery which should go into operation in June this year. All of the leather produced at the tannery will be exported to Japan .
Fujiu Matsumura, president of the Atlântica Group, estimates that turnover at the new unit will be in the region of R5 million ($2.38 million).
