Atlântica Group acquires the Podboy Tannery

Japanese company, the Atlântica Group, which specialises in the production of automotive upholstery leather, has signed a purchase agreement to acquire the Podboy tannnery in Uberaba, Brazil, where it will set up an Atlântica Tannery. The company plans to invest R42 million ($20 million) to reactivate the tannery which should go into operation in June this year. All of the leather produced at the tannery will be exported to Japan.

Fujiu Matsumura, president of the Atlântica Group, estimates that turnover at the new unit will be in the region of R5 million ($2.38 million).
