CEC calls for more protection over footwear imports

10/03/2006

The European Confederation of the Footwear Industry (CEC) is calling for more protection against footwear imports from China and Vietnam.

In a statement, Roeland Smets, managing director of CEC, stated, The European footwear industry in Europe is disappearing due to imports from China and Vietnam at dumping prices.

After their investigation, the Commission has found out that imports at dumping prices cause a damage to the European footwear industry especially by state intervention to the companies.

The measures proposed by the Commission are not sufficient to restore fair trade because the proposed level of antidumping duties is 19% starting in the month of September 2006 and 42% of footwear imported at dumping prices will not pay anti dumping duties.”
