The Indian government has approved in principle the expansion of Chennai Trade Centre (CTC) in Chennai in southern India. The expansion, which is set to cost Rs120 million ($2.8 million), has been approved to allow a higher number of international and local leather chemical and machinery sellers, footwear components, and finished and leather products to participate in future leather exhibitions in Chennai.

Under the proposal, the Indian Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO), which organises the IILF leather fair, would add an additional 6,000 square metres of exhibition space at the Chennai Trade Centre.

Commissioned in January 2001, the CTC is managed by the Tamil Nadu Trade Promotion Organisation (TNTPO), a joint venture of ITPO and Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation (TIDCO). The state-of-the-art CTC was the first fair infrastructure developed by ITPO outside Delhi. Covering an area of 25 acres in Nandambakkam in Chennai, the Centre currently comprises two halls covering 5,000 m2 1,850 m2.
