According to local media reports, since the Eid-ul Azha last month, over Tk 1500 million ($23 million) worth of hides from sacrificial animals have been purchased by Bangladeshi tanners at Chalk Baidyanath, the largest hide market in Bangladesh. It is believed that the buying and selling will continue for at least two more weeks.

Sources said that at least 900,000 goat skins and cow hides had been traded at the market during the period and skin traders expressed satisfaction with the quality of the skins on offer. It was also reported that there had been no disturbance in trading due to the presence of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), that had been brought in to monitor the situation after reports of illegal activity.
