On January 20, China Light Industry Federation (CLIF) officially named Wuhou district, Chengdu city, as China’s city of ladies’ shoes in China”.

Officials from CLIF, the China Leather Industry Association (CLIA), and local government representatives attended a ceremony where Xu Yong, director of CLIA, presented the award to Wuhou district.

CLIA said many districts from different cities took part in the competition including Bishan county and Chongqing city - a well known ladies shoe production area in western China.

The core manufacturing area of Wuhou district, the Western China Shoe Industry Zone, was established in July 2002 and now houses over 1,200 shoe-making companies. 100,000 workers are employed in the zone and over 100 million pairs of shoes worth Yuan 5 billion ($622 million) are produced there every year. It is the third largest ladies shoe manufacturing cluster in China.

Of the 1,200 companies, about 90% manufacture ladies’ shoes which account for around 98% of the total output of ladies footwear in Wuhou.
