Danier Leather reports lower Q2 results

20/01/2006

Canadian designer, manufacturer, and retailer of leather and suede clothing and accessories Danier Leather Inc. has reported lower sales for the 13 weeks and the first 26 weeks ended December 24, compared with the same periods in 2004. For the 13-week period sales fell to $61.8 million from $70.09 million in the second quarter of the prior year. For the first half sales decreased to $82.6 million from $94.3 million in the same period a year earlier.

"Results were affected by a more promotional retail environment leading up to

Christmas, customer preferences for lower price merchandise, the continued fashion trend for shorter length jackets which has a lower average price point, lower customer traffic and unseasonably warmer weather during the first quarter and early part of the second quarter," said Jeffrey Wortsman, president and CEO.
