Mazda Kabura concept car offers 'recycled' interior
Mazda is presenting its new Kabura concept car at the North American International Auto Show, which offers not only new concepts in terms of engineering, but also in terms of interior design offering sustainable luxury through the use of regenerated leather.
Designers wanted to introduce a level of sustainability and recyclability to the car and as a result Mazda collaborated with Sustainable Solutions, Inc (SSI), a company that reengineers post-industrial waste materials into consumer products to produce an interior from regenerated leather substrate.
This substrate is produced from 100% post-industrial waste – and in this case, much of the waste was material recovered from the manufacturing of Nike brand athletic shoes. The leather-grind produced from this can then be dyed and printed in any colour or design.
