Pakistan leather exports rise 16%
According to the Pakistan Tanners’ Association (PTA), the country exported leather and leather products worth $343 million in the period July-October 2005 compared with $296 million in corresponding period last year. This equates to an aggregate increase of approximately 16%.
Although overall exports increased, finished leather exports declined by 20.29%. This occurred despite a 1.9% rise in the average unit price. The leather apparel and clothing sector registered growth of 51.16%; leather glove exports increased by 4.8% (with average unit price rising 17.96%), and leather footwear exports rose by 17.49% (average unit price increased by 6.02%. Other leather products recorded an impressive 52.34% rise in exports.
