The Bertin Group invests in a new unit in Mato Grosso do Sul

The Bertin Group, a holding company operating in the agrobusiness and infrastructure sectors, is to open a new productive unit in the city of Campo Grande. Construction work has already started and inauguration of the new slaughterhouse is scheduled for September 2006.

The incentive given by the state government and the quality of the local herd were some of the factors that led the Bertin Group to invest approximately R$92 million (US$ 41 million) in Mato Grosso do Sul. Bertin already has  a slaughterhouse and meat packing plant in Naviraí, Mato Grosso do Sul, which has been operating for seven years.

With a total area of 150 hectares and the capacity to slaughter approximately 3,000 cattle per day, the new unit will generate 4,000 jobs which added to the 2,500 jobs offered by the Naviraí unit turn the group into one of the largest employers in the state. The company will also invest in environmental protection and infrastructure such as effluent treatment, rain water collection, sewers and water reservoirs for the community.

The Group is based in the state of São Paulo. It has 20,000 employees and its 35 productive units which are located all over the country supply the Brazilian market with meat, hides, animal food, etc. Bertin's products are exported to over 80 countries.
