Chairman of the Korangi Association of Trade and Industry (KATI) and chairman of the Environment Committee of FPCCI, Gulzar Feroz, has announced that the Combined Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) being installed at Korangi Industrial Area in Karachi, in the Sindh Province of Pakistan, will be operational in the next two months. The plant will have the capacity to treat 16,500 cubic metres of tannery waste and 26,500 cubic metres of domestic waste on a daily basis as per national environment quality standards.
He also announced that an independent board of directors was being established to run the plant and urged the installation of another facility. "There is need to install another such plant in the Kusoor area in Punjab Province to treat industrial waste at primary and secondary level, as thousands of people are at risk there."
