ATC Chemicals India, a subsidiary of ATC, has opened its new factory for the production of leather chemicals in Pondicherry, 150 kilometres south of Chennai. The plant is set on a 25,000 m2 site and is dedicated to both wet-end and finishing. Production started in August, with the first batch of syntans and fatliquors. Acrylic binders and other auxiliaries will be also produced in the months to come.

The total capacity of the plant will be 12,000 tonnes per year, and full capacity should be reached by the end of 2006.

Meanwhile, in Thailand, another subsidiary of ATC, TATC, is currently building a factory in the tannery area close to Bangkok. On a site covering 3,500 m2, the factory will manufacture leather chemicals for the Thai market. The site, which will be equipped with a state-of-the-art application laboratory for wet-end and finishing, will be managed by Mr Chanakit. With the installation of the laboratory, ATC intends to establish a training platform for all its technicians, agents and customers in South East Asia.
