Government tries to reverse total embargo on Brazilian meat

According to a report from Agencia Brasil, The Brazilian government is trying to reverse the total embargo imposed on its meat by four countries as a result of the focuses of foot-and-mouth disease detected in the state of Mato Grosso do Sul. Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Supply, Roberto Rodrigues, said that Brazilian missions are working to re-establish the markets of Chile, South Africa, Israel, and Argentina, which have suspended all meat purchases from Brazil.

Mr. Rodrigues said that a mission to Chile hopes to limit the embargo of Mato Grosso do Sul. Chile, which buys 10% of the beef exported by Brazil, banned imports of all meat products on October 14.
The minister said that US$300 million in beef exports could be lost due to these bans.
