Pakistan's leather exports fell by 10.72% to $83.502 million in September 2005 compared with $93.537 million in August. This was said to be due to lower exports of finished leather and footwear. A breakdown showed that tanned leather exports fell from $18.71 million to $12.45 million, leather goods dropped from $62.283 million to $61.442 million and footwear exports decreased from $13.385 million $8.769 million month-on-month. This equated to a 33.46% drop in finished leather and a 34.49% decrease in footwear exports.
On a more positive note, Pakistan’s total leather exports from July to September 2005 stood at $255.172 million compared with $230.755 million in the corresponding period last year, an increase of 10.58%. The data showed that during July-September 2005 period, the country exported 3,137,000m2 of tanned leather worth $51.8 million, leather goods worth $168.071 million, which included leather garments valued at $120.579 million, leather gloves worth $40.113 million and other leather goods of $7.38 million. Footwear exports stood at $35.295 million which included leather footwear worth $32.096 million, and canvas footwear worth $1.098 million.
