Lakeside plant strike continues

26/10/2005

Lakeside Packers meat processing plant in Alberta, Canada remains inactive due to a strike by workers at the company – owned by Tyson Foods. The standstill is not the result of a lack of staff, as according to Tyson over 1,000 workers have turned up for work, but is due to federal meat inspectors refusing to cross the picket line at the facility. Without federal inspections the plant is unable to operate.

It is unknown why the inspectors are refusing to cross the picket line, but some believe that they may fear for their safety following several violent incidents.
