It seems that the outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease (FMD) in Brazil has spread into other regions of the country. The first cases were reported in the south west state of Mato Grosso do Sul last week, but now reports claim that forty cattle farms, which house over 4500 cattle, in the southern state of Parana, which borders with Paraguay and Argentina, have also been quarantined due to fears that livestock may be infected.
The outbreak of FMD has led to many countries banning imports of beef from Brazil (the world’s largest producer). The EU, Russia, Chile, Bolivia, Singapore, Mozambique, Namibia, Norway, Paraguay, Peru, Ukraine and Uruguay, and Egypt have all imposed bans.
