Danier Leather reports 14% drop in sales

21/10/2005

Canadian designer, manufacturer, and retailer of leather and suede clothing and accessories Danier Leather Inc., has reported a 14% drop in sales for the first quarter of 2006. The company recorded sales of $20.8 million compared with $24.3 million in the first quarter of fiscal 2005. Comparable store sales decreased 16%.

"The first quarter is traditionally our slowest and results were affected by hot weather and fewer price oriented promotions," said Jeffrey Wortsman, president and CEO of Danier Leather. "We are moving away from our practice of discounting and towards a strategy of communicating value and fashion to build the Danier brand. The benefits of this strategy may take some time to be realised."
