An outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) has been confirmed in Brazil, the world’s largest exporter of beef. According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the disease was discovered in 140 livestock in Mato Grosso do Sul and emergency procedures have been implemented.

This is the first incidence of the disease in the area since 1999.
