PTA requests zero rating for leather and leather goods

04/10/2005

The Pakistan Tanners’ Association (PTA) has made a request to the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to allow zero rating on leather and leather articles in line with SRO 9921(I)/2005 dated 21.09.2005, in order to allow tanners to use their sales tax paid stock of raw material by 31.12.2005 rather than by 30.09.2005 as notified by the CBR.

Chairman of the PTA, Khawaja M. Yousuf appealed to M. Abdullah Yousuf, chairman, CBR and Mr. Shahid Ahmed, member, sales tax, claiming that producers of leather and leather goods would be unable to dispose of such large quantities of material in the short period to September 30, 2005 in order to meet the export orders already received from abroad. They have therefore requested an extension to be granted up to December 31.
